Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Can agoraphobia cause high blood pressure, ulcers, or migraines?

No. Agoraphobia does not cause stress-related physical illnesses.

However, research shows that people who suffer from agoraphobia are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, ulcers, or migraines - in some cases before the onset of or after recovery from agoraphobia.

That's because agoraphobia and stress related physical illnesses are both manifestations come from the same cause - a sense of underlying anxiety.

It's possible to get free from agoraphobia symptoms but develop another stress-related illness. That's why it is important to take care of the underlying anxiety during recovery from agoraphobia and not just find a way to mask or relieve symptoms.

Taking care of the root cause of agoraphobia will save you from just trading your anxiety disorder for a physical one.
