How to Locate an Agoraphobia Support Group
by Stephen Price

The first place to look for a support group for agoraphobia in your area is in your local telephone book under a section called "Community Services." It may be in the white or yellow pages. Once you find the community service section look under the category of "Mental Health.”

If you cannot find any support groups for agoraphobia in this section, look in the yellow pages of the phone book under "Psychiatrists," "Psychologists," "Marriage and Family Counselors," "Social Workers," or "Mental Health Clinics." If any therapists or clinics say they specialize in anxiety disorders, call and ask if they know of any local support groups for agoraphobia.

Another place to look for a local support group for agoraphobia is in your local newspaper. Sometimes support groups put ads in the newspaper in the classified ads section.

Finally, if you cannot find a local support group for agoraphobia, the Anxiety Disorders Association of America helps people organize new support groups. They do this through their nationwide network of contacts that specialize in working with anxiety disorders. You may find out more about the Anxiety Disorders Association of America on the internet, mail, or telephone:
