What physical conditions have symptoms that are similar to the anxiety symptoms of agoraphobia?

One of the first steps to overcoming agoraphobia or any anxiety disorder is to rule out possible medical causes of the symptoms by seeing a doctor for a complete physical examination. Physical conditions that can cause anxiety or anxiety-like symptoms include:

- asthma
- cardiovascular problems
- diabetes
- hypothyroidism
- seizures
- problems associated with the inner ear

It is important to rule out these medical problems so that you know you are treating the right disorder.
